hell friends, iâ´m sergio oliveira. and iâ´m eduardo vargas. how are you lalo? another new show sergio. thats right. this show is really good. did you notice that we just got another increase in gas prices? another one. here in mexico, for our viewers in latin america. our politicians are not very differenct from yours. they are bastards too. they has promised that with the new reforms and all that the prices of gas were not going to go up. and come the first of august gas prices go up again. and its the biggest increase weâ´ve seen in many years, 55 cents. which is around 4% or something like that, quite a big increase.
it hurts alot because here im mexico we really donâ´t- weâ´ll talk about it more thoughly in a moment. have other transports like trains, pretty much everything is gas based. its all cars and busses, and oviously at the time of transporting goods in busses or trucks, everything that we need to eat, takes gas. so all prices end up going higher. thatâ´s right. the gasoline in mexico even though it hurts alot, is not amog the highest in the world, nor in latin america. last week on my facebook page, i published just that, that
mexico is i believe in sixth place in gas prices compared to the rest of latin america, lower than brazil or argentina, ect. and lots of people got mad, saying that we are producers of petroleum, and that we should have cheap gasoline. which, yes we should. the problem that many people fail to consider is that mexico is a producer of petrolium, but not gasoline, which are fairly different things. gasoline comes from petroleum but to make it you must distil it and we have very few refineries. you have to refine it, and we have very few refinories. and that is a serrious problem of infrastructure in this country.
so we export petrolium whic is extremely cheap right now, and we must import gasoline, because even if we produce and export petroleum mexico does not have the capacity to produce enough gasoline for its own consumption. sum that to what you said, that the infrastructure for transportation is very poor, almost no trains, there are few busses, ect, and to get around, even within a city, you need a car. and that is because, and i use that expression very frequently, from porfirio dãaz, because i see it in mexico almost all the time. "poor mexico, so far from god and so close to the united states".
many mexican things, many of the customs and laws, or our political development is based on the united states. even octavio paz used to say that what the mexican really wants to be deep inside, is the united states. part of that is true. but that comes from before right? from those old customs from porfirio diaz, the actual name of mexico, is the united states of mexico. its copied from the united states of america. of course, thats right. things from there as well, but there are also many thingd about wanting to be the united states.
including a united states that historically speaking was part of mexico, like texas. a vast portion of the united states territory was part of mexico, which was sold by santana so the relationship between mexico and the united states is kind of love-hate relationship, a little complicated, and living here does not mean you understand it. octavio paz, a man of great genious. he was not a loved man in mexico. he said many things that mexicans did not want to hear. like that, that mexico wants to be the united states. i donâ´t really understand that, how mexico wants to have the same level of development as the united states, the economic strength of the
united states, and historically speaking thats not really like that anyomre even though donald trump might say that mexico is the worst thing that has happened to the united states and that migration is still- migration is actually far less, and in times of crissis people from over there come to live in mexico. so seeing that, and understanding the differences between countries is very important. the unites states left two things in the hands of the people and businesses which have later caused problems. 1. transportation. a video is circulating on social media that says that general motors is one of the big culprits responsible from the contamination in
california, that general motors got rid of the tram lines to sell busses to the government of california, and california about 50- 60 years ago was a state with many trains, many trams, with many collective ways of transportation, and that changes, and since california is a place that was a part of mexico and that is very mexican culturaly even still, its capital being los angeles, of the most touristically known is san fransisco, and san diego, and those are the names of california, and those are hispanic nomanclature, that reflects the latin american past of the state but today it is the richest state of the united states, if it was an independent economy
california would be the 8th biggest economy in the world. california is just that big economically, and that is what that is attributed to and because of that giant cultural exchange, made it result in that manner. the other thing that the united states left to the people and businesses was healthcare that is very well seen, more so than in california, in michigan, and especially in detroit primarily because of the automotive industry. because the industry, was so big, so strong and so powerful, they gave everything including healthcare plans to
their workers and took away the need for the government to grant public healthcare, so there comes a time when life expectancy of human beings is much greater but retirement ages are still the same. so businesses still have to pay their workers, and their social security costs for much longer than they previously had to, and that was one of the big reasons why the businesses from previous decades went bankrupt so mexico, in many ways, mimics the united states how can you mimic someone when you donâ´t have the same amount of money?
its like if my neighboor bought a ferrari, so i buy a lambergini but i donâ´t have as much money as him to buy a lambergini, so if i buy it, i wouldnâ´t be able to pay it, and i would go bankrupt, and thatâ´s one of the things that is happening with the price of gasoline. and weâ´ll keep talking about it after a short break. weâ´ll be back. hello friends, if you want to buy or sell a used or semiew car i recommend the page tixuz.com tixuz with a z, the biggest advantage of using that page is that unlike most other pages tixuz, is still an operation without cost for you, come on in, youâ´ll quickly
find the car your looking for or sell your own car much faste than you thought. tixuz.com, remember tixuz with a z. weâ´re back friends and we will continue talking about gasoline prices in latin america, in general more centralized in mexico as a function of the big increase we just had recently, there is a very interesting study from bloomberg, eduardo, that study shows that not only are prices around the whole world it also shows us the acquisitive ability of every country the average every day income and what percentage of your salary
that you need in every country to buy one liter of gasoline, and how many liters of gasoline is used on average per year so that gives you a good idea, and a very well made, solid, and simple to read map which i recommend you look for on the internet. the bloomberg study is called "the real cost of filling up" which is to say, the real cost of filling you gasoline tank. i strongly recommend it, and the bloomberg study is the basis on which we are making todays show. we we look at mexico we see some very interesting numbers, we are using the prices in dollars,
you can chose any currency to put it in, so this can be easier to understand, even if you are outside of mexico. those prices are based on the second trimester of 2016, coming into the third we had an increase in price, so its more expensive here, around 4 or 5% more expensive here. but it gives us a very good idea of the price recently and our capacity to aquire it the average price of gasoline in mexico is, there are some differences especially near the border is, 73 cents on the dollar. that is what a liter costs. but what about the mexicans capacity to buy it?
the average daily income of mexicans is 22.99$ per day. which is around 400 pesos per day on average, and you need 3.4% of your income to buy one liter of gasoline. that puts mexico in rank number 14. there are many countries where you need a larger percentage, -14 is the price placement of gas prices and 44 in capacity to buy it- yes, its true 14 is the price of gasoline when compared to other countries. the most expensive would be in hong kong, with an average price of 1.88 usd per liter of gasoline, in mexico its .73c/usd
obviously venezuela is the cheapest with .01 which is to say 1 cent per liter of gasoline, saudi arabia which should obviously be cheap 24c/usd per liter of gasoline, and colombia 65c/usd usa .68c/usd, egypt .70c/usd, south africa .84c/usd, ect within our buying capacity mexico is in 44th place with 3.4% of your average daily income. now its probably a little more, maybe 3.5% or something like that with the price increase, and in india the liter of
gasoline accounts for 21.19% of the average daily income. in terms of buying capacity, we re doing fantastic when compared to india also when compared to pakistan which is next to it, and it costs 14.98% of what a pakistani earns to buy one liter of gasoline, philippines 10.48%, nigeria 9.21%, egypt 7.5%, south africa 6.25 brazil 4.33, colombia 4.14%, and mexico 3.4%, were we went wrong is in the amount of gasoline that we spend, and the percentage of income necessary to buy that quantity of gasoline. in mexico, the average consumer uses 358 liters of gasoline per year
and that means 3.34 of the average salary we are the second largest consumer of gasoline in terms of cost in the world, at 3.34% the biggest is south africa at 3.71%, these are very big numbers. venezuela .31%- but that sounds like a distortion- it is a distortion - we couldnâ´t even use that data point. - colombia .98% because in colombia, let me find it first, in colombia, the consumer on average uses 86.64 liters of gasoline per year, and mexico uses 356
so what does that mean? the mexican uses a vehicle to move around alot more than a colombian. -but not because we want to- because there is no infastructure public transport is unusable and we get back to the topic from before, why mexico imitated the united states by pasing the costs of transport on to the consumer as if we had the same amount of money as the united states, as if we had the same capacity that the united states has, canada is another example that is extremly interesting. the canadian,
if mexico uses 358 liters of gasoline per year, the canadian uses 1236, 4 times more gasoline is used by the average canadian than by a mexican. even so, even though its higher, the percentage of their average income, when compared to gasoline in mexico, is smaller, which is to say, they need 2.65% of their salary is what they spend on gasoline per year, meanshile the mexican which makes far less, spends 3.34%. they use four times as much gasolin- they use four times as much but that represents 2.65% of their salary when we use four times less gasoline, and it represents a much higher
percentage with ours. in capacity of buying they are ranked 9th .78% of their daily average income, the average daily income of a canadian is 110 usd five times higher than here. so they only need .78% of their daily average income to buy 1 liter of gasoline meanwhile mexico needs 3.4%. so this is like how people say oh gas is just too expensive. well apart from it being expensive, we also spend too much.
we spend alot, but were poor. so all 3 things are complicated gasoline is expensive, we spend more than the average, brazil for example only spends 200 liters a year and we are also contaminating which is not very good. yes exactly. and besides, were poor, our average daily income is low, and when compared to the prices of gasoline, it means we spend a very large portion of our income on gasoline but we also love cars. you do? me, nah. how many more ingredients can you want? you donâ´t make much, expensive gas, you spend too much, and you love riding cars, what pisses most people off and that includes
myself, because we as mexican, i can say that because i have a passport from here too, even though i was not born here, is that we produce petroleum so why donâ´t we invest in infrastructure for refineries? because each one costs 1 billion. white houses cost alot of money too. and they invest in those. how many billions, the problem is the money they steal and how much they donâ´t invest. thats something else. of course you know that doesnâ´t happen in mexico nor latin america. it doesnt happen anywhere, not even in the us, thats the beauty of it all. hey, weâ´ve gone a pretty long time
we hope you like the show. see you later. hello friends, iâ´m sergio oliveira i wanted to invite you to look for our channel tixuz on youtube you will like it. if you enjoyed the video, give it a like. if you want to see more videos click here.
