the engine torque is equal to 436nm, for a speed range from 1,800rpm to 2,500rpm these are very good performance figures despite the high power and torque capability of the engine, this is a large car and as a consequence it can not exceed the speed of 190km/h the 0-100km/h acceleration time of 10.1s is reasonable this engine has other more impressive characteristics from my point of view it is very silent. in fact, it is more silent than the competitor vehicle engines i prefer not to point out any specific vehicles, but i have had the pleasure of driving the main competitors of this santa fe and at least from the interior acoustic perspective, this santa fe is very refined
we will see that this engine block cover has a very well noise-insulated area underneath which is specifically added in order to keep the engine noise down whilst driving it is probably best to lift this up from its position this shows how important the engine noise is for hyundai this is an example of what an engine block cover can look like since the cover is off, we can see the engine block architecture the bonnet is also very simply and elegantly made. i have not seen a simpler design. look at how simply the metal is shaped also look at how simple the locking mechanism is. very very simple.
it is worth showing this mechanism closely the bonnet noise insulation is also very simple i don't think i mentioned the term 'elegant' in relation with an engine compartment before, but this santa fe has the most elegant engine compartment of all the vehicles i have ever driven this engine compartment is truly simple and elegant. one can tell that the manufacturer paid attention to the efficiency. i was telling you about the locking mechanism. this is simple, light and easy to use. all is made exactly as it should be made. this vehicle is fitted with the well-known 6-speed automatic transmission. it is well-known because, as i think i told you before, when this transmission came out and was initially fitted to the ix35 and kia sportage,
it was the lightest and most compact transmission in the world. this is for you to understand that the hyundai-kia group is capable of making components which are the most advanced i don't know if this is currently the case, as a few years have passed since this transmission came out i don't know if this is still the lightest and most compact world-wide, but that is the transmission fitted onto this vehicle it is a conventional automatic transmission with a torque converter, which is quite interesting i have to admit that i am beginning to enjoy the way it shifts gears, which is quite quick on this santa fe this is not the case for the manual mode. we will get back to this later on. however, i stick to my opinion which i described for the hyundai ix35 and kia sportage, that, considering the fuel consumption, this torque converter does not seem to be very efficient.
the instant you press the accelerator pedal to the floor, my feel is that this torque converter works a bit too hard going back to the engine compartment, we can see the same care for noise reduction by looking at this isolation area which is fitted between the engine compartment and the cabin as well as other components which serve the same purpose of reducing the noise in the cabin these rubber strips, which we can see both on the sides and on the upper side of the bonnet, the latter having a pronounced aerodynamic profile. one aspect which i am hoping we will not forget to include in this video i noticed that the front wings are fitted with a similar isolation foam as the one underneath the engine block cover compliant with the euro 5 emission standard
co2 emissions(g/km) 178 as you can see, the driver seat is electrically adjustable the adjustment is quite fast the seat has a long distance adjustment, all the way to the dashboard this is the maximum position rearwards this is the maximum position downwards and this is the highest seat position apart from these, there are other classical adjustments for the rake and a 4-position lumbar adjustment, which i did not feel very well but it is ok
the height adjustment is the well-known mechanism which lifts both the front and the rear sides of the seat this is quite interesting the steering wheel is adjustable for both rake and reach over a large angle and distance, respectively you don't have any issues. since the seat is electrically adjustable, you can easily find a comfortable position. the steering wheel buttons are familiar to us. we saw these fitted to the ix35 and other newer models there are quite a few buttons, but they are ergonomically located and i have not had any issues the horn is very loud. the steering wheel is covered with leather. you probably know, i told you about this on other occasions, that one of the well-known problems with the newer hyundai vehicles
is the fact that the quality of the steering wheel leather is not the best. it seems to me that for this santa fe the quality of the leather has changed from what i was used to from hyundai and kia it seems to be a better quality leather. i am curious how this will wear out over time. a rather dubious feature is this material here, which seems to be easy to scratch if you are not careful, this material will deteriorate quickly the same is applicable to the rest of the interior surfaces of the same material, which is actually just a cover or a paint layer on top of a plastic material i see it has some scratches in this area, which will probably expand over time. the controls on the left hand side of the steering wheel:
this is for adjusting the brightness of the instrument panel we also have the hill descent control feature and the esp/traction control activation switch the active eco button. i talked about its functionality during the presentation of ix35 also we have the option to lock the central differential, which is a very useful function in normal mode, the permanent traction system automatically distributes the torque depending on the driving conditions during winter time or if you require the maximum traction capability, you press this button and the torque will be equally distributed between the front and the rear axles, in a 50:50 split i want to show you two further interesting aspects which i found interesting about this santa fe
the first is that we can adjust the inclination angle of the rear seats, which is quite interesting competitor vehicles typically have two to four possible reclining positions. here you can see that i can recline all the way down in this position, which is of course a bit exaggerated, and i can tilt it to a very sharp forward angle. you will probably find it difficult to believe this, but this santa fe has about 20 different angle positions in total for the rear seats. i didn't count them but this figure is about right. both the seat i am in and the one next to me can be reclined. i am not sure if the middle seat has the same functionality. no, it does not. only if you lock it with the lateral seat you can recline it as well. otherwise it can not be reclined.
there is one more way to adjust the rear seats. as you can see, the seats can also be pushed to the front and back which is a big deal. i would like to emphasize one more aspect. there is a lot of leg room for the rear passengers, as you can see. the driver's seat is in the typical driving position. there is a lot of space in general in this santa fe. i believe there is sufficient space everywhere in the car. there is one thing which i don't like with respect to the interior modularity. on one hand, it is a good thing that the rear seats can be folded down from the boot by pulling the two levers where each seat has its own lever to the right and left hand side in the boot, which is very good however, to put them back in the upright position you need to use both hands
so you will not be able to do this simply by pulling the lever in this position it is now locked, you are not able to lift it back without unlocking it first using this lever on the side. so you will need to use your both hands to be able to coordinate these steps number of seats: 5 this is what the remote key looks like; very interesting. i like the fact that it is very thin and not too heavy. of course, it also includes the mechanical key for emergency situations. all we have to do is place it anywhere in the car. then we can start the engine by pressing the start button and the brake pedal. i notice a change in both the indicator and the wiper stalks. we have a new type of stalk.
it seems to have a more interesting design than the previous one and i think that they are more reliable by being of a different type than the rotating stalk a rotating function can only be found here, whilst the previous stalks had two rotating rings each. the start-stop button is located here. the dashboard has a positive line in my opinion. besides the classic line, which clearly indicates the typical hyundai interior design the moment you step into the car, we see this central console, which to me looks like something pharaonic because of these air vents and the central screen it appears to have the main lines of a pharaoh statue it looks very nice. notice that even with the dials and screen turned off the dashboard looks quite interesting.
the main remark i want to make is with respect to the quality of the interior materials. these materials are new in this santa fe. much finer than we have come to expect including the leather fitted onto the doors and other areas around the dashboard have interesting new materials we can see one of these materials here. this is a slightly rough and hard wearing material, but soft to the touch it gives you an interesting feeling. the material texture reminds me of isuzu d-max and toyota rav toyota rav has a similar interior material, but not identical.
i am referring to the size and feel of the material texture. so practically a material combination which are both interesting and seemingly long-lasting this is the feeling i get when i touch the materials, they do not seem to wear off easily the dashboard dials are very difficult to capture on video we are going to great lengths to film these dials one aspect that i love about this santa fe, which i mentioned in the past and is in line with my preference for the state of the art technology to be fitted onto cars for both the interior and the exterior design is the reduced number of buttons. we can see that there aren't many controls
the layout is elegant, simple and ergonomic. i had not issues with it. if you asked me, i would have liked this hazard switch to be coloured red. just a personal feel. this switch is black with just the warning triangle being red. otherwise, the dashboard is very elegant. everything is laid out as it should be. the entertainment are is located up here. the automatic climate control is down here. this is very easy to use as you can see. you notice that it does not have a display. some might say that other cars have three or more displays. i personally find annoying a high number of displays.
the climate controls are shown onto the central display as they are operated. there is also a button here which switches the navigation screen to a climate control screen. another feature which i saw before: this console with a shape which may have been borrowed from other manufacturers this is also a trend. i honestly like the idea to position in this area the cigarette lighter, the 12v plug, and the audio in and usb connectors because you can comfortably leave a mobile phone or memory stick in this storage area however, the cigarette lighter is a bit awkward to use especially whilst driving, of course, smoking is damaging for the health and we should all quit, but i am referring to the ergonomic aspect of this function you might hit this area with the hot lighter or you might drop it
maybe a better location for this cigarette lighter would have been preferable. anyway, i will not insist on this topic. i like this lower console a lot. it is different from what we have seen so far from most manufacturers. it is an interesting console. i am not a big fan of the gear selector. i would have preferred one similar to the kia sportage, with a larger and wider shape which would have looked much better from my point of view. seat heating for both front seats with three level settings. an auto-hold button. electro-hydraulic hand brake.
gearbox with the usual selections. i will start the engine to see how it works. the selector positions light up, which is quite elegant. and each position is lit individually. the reverse position indicator is red, which is an interesting and stylish feature for the manual mode, the selector is pushed to the right lower gears are engaged by pulling back and higher gears by pushing forward this is the opposite of what it should be implemented like. i talked about this for many other cars. this button turns on and off the parking proximity sensors. two cup holders. the optional sliding cover over these could have been fitted, but this is fine as well. i like it. ashtray, which can be placed here.
a small storage area. the armrest does not slide forward, which is a drawback from my point of view. however, the storage compartment underneath is immense. there is also this box which can be placed here. also underneath there are some hooks which can be used to clip different things to such as documents and similar objects the armrest is covered in leather. it is quite massive and firm. the glove compartment is easy to reach. at last, the manufacturers realised that this is the ideal open button location we notice that it can be locked using a key. the glove compartment is simple, it has no liner nor any other functionality other than storage
an important aspect is that is is cooled. you can warm it up or cool it down within the limits of the climate control system for the cooling function, the air conditioning system must be turned on. the air is let in by twisting this knob here. i can feel the air now.
