topspeed.sk in partnership with autobazar.eu presents automobile review of marian cabak: i'm one of many really interested in this car. i don't expect much emotions, but qoros 3 is a car that basically staggers the whole world. into an overwhelming choice of people cars in segment c

comes a car maker with international and multicultural base. funding comes from israel, design from germany, production in china. sounds interesting. i have to admit, even the car looks interesting. these are first driving impressions.no prejudice, just a new car trying to find out what it's like and passing my experience on camera. welcome to qoros 3 sedan review. you surely know there is also a hatchback version, which won't beavailable in europe for before end of 2014. this one is full spec. actually, they all are so far. slovakia is the first and only country in europe where they sell it. car maker wants to test all the processes, toll clearance, car importing, guarantee inspections and servicing

- basically all the stuff car maker has to deal with before mass selling starts in eu. qoros representatives claim they aren't in a hurry, therefore several of the things you might wonder why have they done it the way they've seem okay. the qoros company really has a lot of time. this is a reason why they don't offer more versions in terms of engine, transmission, price or interior. under bonet is a 1.6 gas turbo engine with 156 hp (115 kw),acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h should take little less than 10 sec. measured acceleration to 100 km/h was 10,84s. i think it's 9,7 s, top speed is 215 km/h. not a breathtaking specs. let's begin with seats. you see it's quite flat in both the seat and backresttherefore it's wide and suits bigger, bulkier people.

unfortunately it's only three way adjustable- vertically, longitudinally and backrest. it misses options to inflate or change lumbar support,setting the inflation for lateral support... setting of lower seat's length, etc. in this area it's slightly below standards. fortunately, the steering wheel is adjustable in both ways,it's in leather, comfortable, has a sporty shaped rim but air-bag cover seems cheapy. dual-colored interior (beige and black) generally combines really nice, luxurious items such is black piano finish on several places in middle consolewhich is very low by the way, or around frame of the touch screen. then there are some cheap parts, like handbrake and steering column switches. this car wants to attract with quality, yet it doesn't want to attack premium class.

it should be an alternative to established makers that we known for some hundred years now. you can't see the dials and only needles when the car is off. it's the so-called black panel.i really like that. these are literally the first kilometers that i'm doing in this car. i notice missing sport mode, but it's possible to change gears manually. yet paddle shift is missing too. i'd like to upshift by pulling gearshift towards me and downshift by pushing away. can't do this here, though. it's the other way round like in most cars and it's wrong. ergonomics is good, everything is where id expect it to be.i'm really surprised by simplicity of the middle part. in a way, with these three buttons, if it weren't for the controls of air conditioning,it reminds me strongly of peugeot's i-cockpit. this car really minimized amount of buttons- oh, i thought qoros logo is a button, and it's not.

seriously, just like an i-cockpit in peugeot. well, i'm not judging the stereo, from the first notes it's not much.maybe it is just the corrections setting is not right. i'm starting to like this dashboard, it looks a bit like from vw group. the plastics are softened, so it's not just black board. but another cheap thing are steering column switches, just like in 90's. these are the contrasts in car - pretty luxurious partsare complemented with cheap and simple solutions. the transmission has 6 gears,gears change is really comfort and smooth. there's no jerking. i'm going to try the manual mode.

just like any other dual-clutch i know. i'd even say that it's more subtle gear change that i know from dsg. seriously! i have no reason being unfair to this car,or praise it to the heavens, because people deserve quality for their money. and basic price is whopping 21 000 €, the only possible price of this car. with only one top specification level. now i'm on a panel road, can't say there's more noisefrom chassis than in other comparable vehicles i know. it's the usual, standard noise.

i am passing to superior, better asphalt on the austrian side just behind bratislava. absolute whisper. it's not the quietest car i know,but it's fine. so, summing up: the car belongs to segment c, with cars likes opel astra, renault megane, ford focus etc. you surely know that qoros 3 got full score, all 5 ncap stars. and really high percentage score for passive, pedestrian and passengers safety. we need to talk international car here. when a car is designed by a german,a swede deals with safety,

when it's being funded by israelisand is made 80 km away from shanghai, this is not just another china car. this is a car build by the europeans, for europeans. the space inside is good, say i'm like a bigger chinese. four people like me would travel just fine here. and not just that. the visibility is really good, no unnecesary obstacles here,no divided windows in front or back. just one serious a-pillar, then b and c and we're done. this asian automotive school is really interesting,if i remember correctly, sometime in the 60's, the japanese startedproducing cars.

some thirty years later, they were one ofthe world leaders. by the end of 90s, japanese carsbecame among the world leaders. then there are korean's. started in the 80's. by the end of the 90's, some 15 years later, they are world standard or top in class terms of hyundai and kia brands. now here comes a chinese dragon, that half cuts the time koreans needed to catch up with japanese... the base is similar to vw's modular mqb solution. power unit with firewall is solid,

everything else is modular. they're already making the qoros3 hatchback, a crossover is coming, slightly lifted for some soft off-road. and a suv. in not so distant future we can expect four vehicles from qoros. it's happening not in 15, nor 10, but 6 - 7 years. this speed is incredible. at 130 km/h engine revs 2900 rpm, it's not a little. declared combined cycle fuel consumption is 6,7l/100 kmafter 100 km in combined traffic i did 8,7l/100kmthe fuel consumption is not the best. shorter gearing could bring some good dynamics. let's try some corners.

brakes are good. progressive, really fine. the engine buzz horrible. oh boy, the suspension. the first thing that squeals are the tyres. very low body roll. even in manual mode, transmission shifts on it's own, at around 6000 rpm. lazy girl. she takes her time to realize i want a kick down. it shifts takes place at 6200 rpm. brakes feel is seriously good. c'mon tranny, you can downshift two gears, you really can...

this sounds like my mother's vacuum cleaner. terrible. terrible! those tyres squeals pretty often. could be due to the aggressive abs calibration. qoros probably wears out the tyres faster than other cars. the suspension is really top. in given category. it's not sporty, but the comfort, the stability,the precision, the sleekness. excellent.

still, the transmission - maybe it's not the hardware,but software is strange. whoa, it stops very good, really. the tyres squeals really often and early. taking corners faster becomes embarrassing. :) i have to check what is put on them. the driving experience is mainly affected by the transmission. by the way, the car is certified to use 16", 17" and 18" rims, we are driving on a 17", with 205/50 r17 tyres. damping comfort is more than acceptable, it's a pleasant surprise. the car feels robust.

suspension and steering are quite accurate. even the slightest movement is transfered in direction change.from the sporty driving point of view there's a problem you have nowhere to rest your knees when some lateral forces occur. the doors are away from my legs, and the centre tunnelis so low it almost isn't there. yet once again i am judging qoros 3 with 1.6 turbo with an average power by sport standards. you see, these are standard european specifications. power outputis the same as on psa's 1,6l turbo which is in every other french car. different problem. clearly i can deactivate the start-stop systemwhen the engine is off but the engine won't start now by activating it again.

have to start it via button. now tranny is in d, still can't start. if this were to happen to me in regular traffic, i wouldn't make drivers behind me very happy. pushing the esc button shortly won't work,i have to hold it longer. it says "stability control turned off".anyway, let's try acceleration from 0 to 100. 3..2..1.. go! oh, really sleepy reactions, very sleepy. seems like first gear is there twice. why is this happening to me? third gear, one hundred now.

it seems like a sloth to me. but when it finally gets it's stride, goes well. actually really well. beautifully accurate steering. the car is really stable, even at speeds. i shouldn't be mentioning this, buti've just been doing over 100 mph now. i'm not sure if i'd pay € 21 000 for qoros, but there's nothing really wrong with the car as such. actually the opposite. given this isthe first car of new, unknown brand whose only ancestor was something called cheery, chery or whatever,

it's very good. you can see from every angle how european this car wants to be. it's no wonder though, because european cars are on the highest level. if a car can withstand competitors hereand meet european's demands in terms of quality and willingness to buy and use it, it will succeed everywhere. well, i think it's time to stop for a second, let the car cool down,

hmm, handbrake feels nice and solid, and read something about qoros cars. the story of the company started only in 2007.israel corp. and chery automotive (founded in 1997), the biggest independent car maker and exporter in china. the two together created qoros, with total planned investment of € 1,8 billion. designers, engineers and managers come from 20 different countries,they used to work in top carmakers in europe, such as vw, bmw, general motors, opel, volvo, saab, ford, jaguar, land rover, fiat and even tesla motors. in terms of research and development qoros operates in two places. development and construction comes from gratz,design is based in munich,

company headquarters is in shanghai and production facility itself is in changshu. main suppliers are magna steyr, getrag, trw, avl, continental, bosch, microsoft, lear, kardon and iconmobile. all big name companies. supposedly widest car in segment - 1839 mm,without the rear view mirrors. it offers a lot of storage space, i can confirm that.it's in the doors, in the middle, a place for two cans and wallet, a pretty deep shaft for a lot of things, another storage space under the piano lacquered cover whose closing is very cheap and weak. oh, come on, close. the car desperately needs more specification levels,- at least two or three.

and a price span starting from around € 15 000. provided that qoros wants to succeed and make a change in this market, the most challenging market in the world. but they don't want to, so far. so there's nowhere to hurry. they need to offer a hatchback, it's necessary for europeans. we know it exists, it doesn't look bad at all,some people like it even more than sedan. so it's only a matter of time when it's going to arrive in europe. they need diesel, something between 1,5 to 2 litres.this should be ready within next two years. they definitely need manual gearbox.

but from customers point of view, they simply need a test drive. the biggest problem to break will be the moral barrier- buying the chinese car. although i point out again, it's only made in china, everything else is done by best and brightest of the automotive industry and great suppliers of big names which put great products into this vehicle. everyone wants to do business these days. i think, chineese would have failed building a car at this level. saying that i don't meet this is the absolute top. because it isn't. still, it's a decent level.
